Client: University of Michigan Muslim Student Coalition
Skills+Tools: Hi-Fi Prototyping, Design Thinking, UX Design Principals
Duration: 10/2024- Present
Overview
MMADb is a LinkedIn-style responsive platform designed to connect Muslim students and alumni at the University of Michigan. This project was organized as part of the MMADb committee in the broader UM Muslim Student Association. My role in this project focused on transforming low-fidelity wireframes into high-fidelity designs while enhancing usability, particularly within the profile page and account preferences.
I worked directly with the software development team, providing updates and ensuring seamless implementation of design improvements.
Goals
The Michigan Muslim Alumni Database aimed to streamline UI and user flow for a smoother experience while creating a distinct yet recognizable UM-aligned brand. Based on project lead feedback, we designed a clear, professional layout with intuitive navigation and readable typography for better usability.
I streamlined sign-in and registration by clearly distinguishing new and returning users, reducing confusion and speeding up onboarding. Profile and contact pages were redesigned to highlight key information, making connections easier. UI refinements following Gestalt Principles—like better button placement, spacing, and typography—enhanced readability, accessibility, and intuitive navigation while staying true to UM’s branding and project leads’ vision.
I simplified registration by removing unnecessary steps and adding guided input fields to improve usability. Profile editing became more intuitive, allowing direct updates without extra menus. Account preferences were redesigned with clear labels and toggles for better personalization and privacy. A consistent UI language and UM-aligned color scheme ensured a seamless, professional experience.

Key Improvements and Design Decisions
Reflection + Next Steps
This project reinforced the importance of balancing functionality with a visual identity to create an intuitive and easily recognizable platform within the UM community. I refined the UI, user flow, and branding through iteration to meet alumni needs while ensuring a seamless experience. This semester, we are working on conducting user interviews on our completed mobile website and gathering user research and usability testing. This will help inform the following UI and feature improvements round based on honest user feedback and needs.
