Overview

Simplifying the Student Experience -

Original Purpose: UM-Maizey and MI.Maizey were an AI-powered duo designed to help UMich students manage academic and extracurricular needs. UM-Maizey served as a database for storing and accessing UM-restricted data, while MI.Maizey enabled easy interaction and recall.

Identified Challenge: The platform’s fragmented user experience and unclear messaging made it difficult for students to understand its value.

Redesign Goal: Unified UM Maizey and MI.Maizey into a cohesive, user-friendly platform to enhance usability, accessibility, and student engagement.

Clearly communicate MI.Maizey’s three key use cases: retrieving information, integrating UM data, and performing real-time actions.

  1. Ensure first-time users can easily get started, understand the platform’s features, and see its UM affiliation.

  2. Provide returning users with seamless navigation, feature examples, and a cohesive, UM-branded experience.

Reflections

Working on MI.Maizey helped me navigate the unique user goals of our client, UM ITS, while creating user-friendly features that tackled usability issues. This experience really sharpened my UX design skills, especially in prototyping and advanced Figma techniques.

Presenting our ideas to Michael Hess, the head of UM ITS, was a great opportunity, and I’m thrilled that our designs will be used to enhance the user experience and interface of the UM GPT tools. I can’t wait to see how our work positively impacts the student community!
